About Montana Monarch Stone

Montana Monarch Stone is proud to be from a beautiful Montana valley with a long history of mining and production of natural materials.
“Monarch was founded in 1889 to service the lead/zinc/silver mines at Barker/Hughesville and at Neihart. It was a railroad junction with branch lines going to both mining districts. After mining ceased, population in the town dwindled to the point where the town dis-incorporated itself and Monarch could properly be described as a village. Now our population is growing. Restaurants and motels serve the stream of recreationists who use the National Forest.” The quarry was in operation until 1972 when new government and environmental laws caused the quarry to stop producing. At that point Monarch Stone products could be found as far away as Eastern Canada. In 2006 Ask & Son L.L.C. began the process to re-open the quarry. In the spring of 2007, with the help of the community (special thanks Croff Excavating) the Montana Monarch Stone quarry was producing again. Throughout the remainder of 2007 MMS was able to replicate production of the original quarry.
In early 2008 MMS joined the industry race with a professional selection of quality stone products from random ledge pieces to custom cut masonry and landscape stones. “Monarch Stone produces its sandstone from the Cambrian-age Flathead Sandstone Formation. The extra strength and durability of this stone is a consequence of the close proximity of the quarry to an igneous intrusion.” (Dr. David Baker, 2007) Montana Monarch Stone, quarries, produces, and distributes sandstone used as decorative stone.MMS is located south of MonarchMontana.
